The Commercial Hotel Middle Pub opened in 1904 with proprietor Mr A C Wilson behind the bar. There has been many licensees operating the Middle in the years since it was built perhaps the most famous being Mr & Mrs Thomas H Webb who began serving the Mullumbimby Hotel habitues with good brown ale shortly after the avent of World War 1. In October of 1920 Mr Webb sold the licence to Mr Fuller of Kyogle & the Webb family moved to Sydney, Thomas passing away within a short period. In January of 1922 Mrs Florence Webb returned to the Middle after repurchasing the licence.
